Norovirus cases are increasing in our area. This illness, causing symptoms like sickness and diarrhoea, can spread quickly and is quite unpleasant. Thankfully, for most people, it’s a short-lived illness, typically lasting only two to three days without needing medication.
The best way to prevent norovirus from spreading is by washing hands frequently with soap and water, especially after using the toilet and before handling food. It’s also worth noting that alcohol-based hand gels aren’t effective against norovirus.
If you’re experiencing symptoms, it’s crucial to stay home until you’ve been symptom-free for at least two days, as this is when you’re most contagious. Do not go to work or school, visit care homes or hospitals whilst you have symptoms. For more information, you can check the NHS website and search for ‘norovirus’.
